Our Saskatchewan Operations

LiCAN is developing lithium extraction in southeastern Saskatchewan, Canada, using technologies processing underground brine. The Kisbey project addresses the growing demand for battery-grade lithium needed for the energy transition, contributing to Canada's domestic and international supply chains.

Saskatchewan's
Lithium resources

The Kisbey project in Saskatchewan, Canada is positioned in an area with notable advantages for lithium production.

High-concentration lithium in underground brine

Tests show lithium concentrations in the Williston Basin reach up to 259mg/L within a 20km radius of LiCan's 153km² holding.

Strategic market access

Situated near Estevan, our location provides direct transportation routes to North American battery manufacturers.

LiCAN's roadmap

LiCAN's roadmap manages capital efficiently while progressively validating resources and de-risking operations to reach 12,000 to 18,000  tonnes annual LCE production.

Resource acquisition (2024)

Participation in regional auctions, and strategic acquisitions to strengthen position in Saskatchewan.

Asset maturation (2025)

Resource certification, subsurface  studies, and well preparations.

Appraisal wells

Drilling appraisal wells, and convert one into a production well upon success, to access underground lithium brines.

Development well

Drilling of a development well to return processed brine to subsurface.

Pilot production

Launch of initial commercial DLE operations to validate extraction.

Commercial Development

Development drilling and commercial production in 3000t- per-year increments.

Plateau production

Commercial production starts to reach
12,000-18,000t per year based on market demand.

Operational efficiency and production

LiCAN brings practical know-how from oil and gas operations to lithium production, creating straightforward and cost-effective ways to extract lithium from underground brines while respecting the environment and local communities.

Responsible resource use

LiCAN carefully plans each well location to get the most lithium with the least environmental impact, ensuring the resource remains viable for the long term while minimizing disruption to surrounding lands and water systems.

Practical solutions

By adapting tried-and-tested drilling methods from the oil industry, LiCAN keeps costs down and operations simple, using existing infrastructure and local expertise to get lithium out of the ground efficiently.

Direct Lithium Extraction: Our technical approach

Our extraction approach is designed to maximize resource recovery while minimizing environmental effects:

Selective lithium capture

The technology selectively removes lithium while leaving other elements in the brine solution.

Sustainable water management

Returns processed water to its underground source, preserving this valuable resource.

Rapid production timeline

Converts brine to lithium concentrate in hours rather than the months or years required by traditional methods.

High recovery rate

Captures approximately 90% of available lithium from processed brine, improving resource utilization.
